Aquarium Acrylic Sheet: Cast Grade for Tanks and Windows

Ask a public aquarium engineer what separates a tank-grade sheet from a display-grade sheet and the answer is never the price. It is the cast process, the clarity and the way the sheet handles water pressure. An aquarium acrylic sheet is not just thick acrylic — it is cast, bubble-free, and matched to the depth and span it has to hold.

What makes a sheet aquarium-grade

For a water-bearing panel the gauge is driven by pressure, not taste. A large viewing window may need 50-150 mm of cast acrylic; a tunnel or deep tank runs higher, and RP River People supplies thick cast sheets from about 50 mm up to 300 mm and beyond. The sheet must be cast, not extruded, so it holds thickness, welds cleanly at seams, and stays optically clear under load and over years of water contact.

What to include in your sourcing enquiry

  • Water depth and the opening size (span) the panel must cover.
  • Required thickness, or ask us to calculate it from the pressure.
  • Cast grade and clarity requirement for the exhibit.
  • Whether you need curved panels, tunnel sections or bonding.
  • Handling and shipping for thick large panels.

The pressure calculation is explained in acrylic aquarium window thickness calculation, and the thick-cast range in thick cast acrylic aquarium panels.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How thick does an aquarium acrylic sheet need to be?

A: Thickness follows water pressure: large viewing windows commonly need 50-150 mm, and tunnels and deep tanks run higher. Send your depth and span and we will confirm the gauge.

Q: Can extruded acrylic be used for an aquarium?

A:Extruded sheet does not hold thickness and welds as cleanly as cast under load; aquarium-grade acrylic is cast for pressure resistance and optical clarity.
