Clear Acrylic Sheet 1220×2440 Guide

1220 × 2440 mm is the sheet a fabricator orders by reflex. It is the metric equivalent of 4 × 8 ft, it nests well on a 2.4 m beam saw, and almost every acrylic display and sign shop is tooled around it. The useful part is knowing what it weighs and how many fit a container.

The sheet, in numbers

Cast acrylic at 1220 × 2440 mm, density about 1.19 g/cm³:

  • 2 mm → about 7.1 kg per sheet
  • 3 mm → about 10.6 kg
  • 5 mm → about 17.7 kg
  • 10 mm → about 35.4 kg
  • 20 mm → about 70.8 kg

Those figures decide handling as much as freight. A 20 mm sheet at 71 kg is a two-person lift with a trolley, not a hand carry, and a stack of twenty is over 1.4 t on a pallet.

Thickness tolerance is part of the spec

Cast sheet at 1220 × 2440 is normally ±0.3 mm at 3 mm and ±5% above 25 mm. Extruded sheet holds a tighter thickness but is less resistant to stress cracking and yellows faster outdoors — for a signage order that will sit in sun, cast is the safer default even with the wider tolerance band.

How many sheets in a container

A 20 ft container at 3 mm is weight-limited before it is volume-limited. In practice, crated upright and braced, a 20 ft load runs roughly 800–1,200 sheets at 3 mm, and far fewer at 10 mm where the weight per sheet climbs to 35 kg. Always quote against weight, not sheet count.

The price side of the same sheet is covered in clear acrylic sheet 4×8 price, and bulk buying in wholesale cast acrylic sheet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is 1220×2440 the same as 4×8 feet?

A:Practically yes. 4 × 8 ft converts to 1219 × 2438 mm, and the trade rounds to 1220 × 2440. Fabrication drawings built around a 4 × 8 sheet fit a metric sheet with a millimetre or two of allowance at each edge.

Q: How much does a 1220×2440 acrylic sheet weigh?

A:About 10.6 kg at 3 mm, 35.4 kg at 10 mm and 70.8 kg at 20 mm, using a density near 1.19 g/cm3. Weight, not sheet count, is what limits a container load.
