ABS Sheet Price per Sheet: Black, White & Textured

ABS sheet price per sheet is a weight calculation in a sheet-shaped format. A fabricator in Ohio compared three quotes for 4 mm black ABS, 1,220 x 2,440 mm, and picked the lowest at 21.40 USD per sheet. The delivery weighed 8% less than the previous order from another supplier, and the sheets measured 3.55 mm. The price per sheet was real; the price per kilogram was 14% above the market.

ABS sheet pricing is quoted per sheet because that is how fabricators buy it, but the sheet is a weight product. Once the size, thickness and colour are fixed, the price is a kilogram rate plus a converting allowance, and a lighter sheet at a lower price is not a saving.

ABS sheet price per sheet: what moves the number

Resin grade, thickness, sheet size, colour and texture. General-purpose ABS sits at one rate; flame-retardant or high-impact grades add 15 to 30%. Black and white are stock colours and cheapest; a custom match adds a minimum run and a colour approval. A hairline texture costs a roller change, and a deep texture costs more because the sheet is heavier at the same nominal thickness.

Size matters more than buyers expect. A 1,000 x 2,000 mm sheet and a 1,220 x 2,440 mm sheet differ by 49% in area, and the per-sheet price scales with it. Comparing a quote on 1,000 x 2,000 against one on 1,220 x 2,440 without converting to square metres is the most common error in ABS procurement.

Thickness tolerance and the weight check

Standard tolerance for extruded ABS sheet is plus or minus 5 to 10% depending on the grade. On a 4 mm sheet that is up to 0.4 mm, and on a 2,440 mm sheet that is real money. Ask for the tolerance and then check the weight: a 1,220 x 2,440 x 4 mm ABS sheet at 1.05 specific gravity should weigh about 12.5 kg. A sheet at 11.5 kg is a thin sheet.

The weight calculation method, including the specific gravity of filled and textured grades, is set out in our guide to ABS sheet weight per sheet, and it is worth running before any price comparison.

Freight, cut charges and the real landed cost

A per-sheet price at the factory gate is not the landed cost. Add cutting to size if the fabricator cannot use a full sheet, the pallet or crate, and the freight, which for ABS is weight-driven rather than volume-driven. On a 500 sheet order the packing method can move the landed cost by several percent.

Cut charges deserve a line of their own. Many suppliers quote a per-sheet cutting fee that is higher than the material saved by ordering a smaller size. Compare the cost of a full sheet cut in-house against the supplier cut price before assuming cut-to-size is cheaper.

Texture and colour also affect yield. A textured sheet shows scratches and handling marks more than a smooth one, so a fabricator buying for a visible enclosure should allow a higher scrap rate on textured stock. That is a cost that never appears on the quotation.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does ABS sheet cost per sheet?

It depends on size, thickness, grade and colour, and the reliable comparison is price per kilogram rather than per sheet. A 1,220 x 2,440 mm black sheet at 4 mm is roughly 12.5 kg of material, so the sheet price should track the resin rate plus converting.

Is black ABS more expensive than white?

Usually the same or marginally different, because both are stock colours. A custom colour match adds a minimum run and a colour approval cost, and a textured surface adds a roller change. Neither is a large premium on a stock black or white sheet.

What thickness tolerance should I expect on ABS sheet?

Plus or minus 5% on extruded sheet is typical, up to 10% on some grades. Check it by weighing the sheet against the theoretical weight, because a 3.55 mm sheet sold as 4 mm is a 12% material shortfall that the price per sheet will not reveal.
