Acrylic and Polycarbonate Sheet Standard Sizes, Thicknesses and How to Order Cut-to-Size

The first question most buyers ask a plastic sheet supplier is simple: what sizes and thicknesses do you stock? Knowing the standard dimensions, and knowing what information to send for cut-to-size panels, saves days of back-and-forth and avoids ordering mistakes. This guide covers the standard acrylic and polycarbonate sheet sizes used across the industry, the common thickness range, and exactly what to include in your enquiry.

Standard Sheet Sizes: What the Industry Uses

Sheet manufacturers worldwide produce to a familiar set of standard dimensions. The most common formats are:

  • 1220 x 2440 mm – the classic 4 x 8 ft sheet, the default for displays, signage, retail and general fabrication
  • 1250 x 2450 mm – the European standard, used widely for furniture, glazing and shopfitting
  • 1830 x 3660 mm – the 6 x 12 ft large format, popular for large signage, partitioning and exhibition work
  • 2030 x 3050 mm and 2050 x 3050 mm – jumbo formats for sound barriers, architectural glazing and big fabrication runs
  • 2500 x 3050 mm and wider – available from many extruders for special projects, subject to lead time and MOQ

Polycarbonate sheet follows a similar pattern, with 1220 x 2440 mm and 1250 x 2450 mm most common, and wider rolls or jumbo sheets up to about 2.1 m available for roofing and greenhouse projects. If your drawing is a non-standard size, cut-to-size service removes the constraint: the panel is simply CNC-routed or sawn from a standard blank.

Thickness Range: What to Specify

Choose thickness by load, span and application, not by habit. The practical working range is:

  • Acrylic (cast and extruded): from 1.0 mm up to 30 mm and beyond. Common stock thicknesses are 1.5, 2, 3, 4.5, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 15, 20, 25 and 30 mm
  • Polycarbonate solid sheet: typically 0.8 to 15 mm, with 2, 3, 4.5, 6, 8 and 10 mm the fastest-moving sizes
  • Multi-wall polycarbonate: 4, 6, 8, 10, 16 and 20 mm twin-wall and multi-wall profiles for roofing and cladding

Thickness tolerance matters – see our thickness tolerance guide for the industry-standard variation you should expect. Cast acrylic also allows thicker sections than extruded, which is why deep fabrication and heavy-duty guards usually specify cast.

Cut-to-Size: What to Include in Your Enquiry

For custom panels, a complete specification lets the factory quote and schedule immediately. Include:

  • Finished size: length x width x thickness, in mm (always state finished, not blank, dimensions)
  • Quantity and whether panels are identical or mixed sizes
  • Edge finish: polished, sawn, routed or with edge banding – polished edges suit visible displays
  • Holes and cutouts: diameter, position, and whether holes must be countersunk or chamfered
  • Colour and finish: clear, tinted, frosted, mirror, or a specific colour code from the colour chart
  • Masking: whether protective film should stay on both faces for shipping
  • Drawing: any PDF or DXF for complex shapes avoids mistakes completely

Two practical points: first, large cut-to-size orders are usually cheaper per square metre than buying blanks and cutting yourself, because we combine the fabrication and material cost. Second, very large panels above the jumbo range may require extrusion or casting to order, which adds lead time – tell us your size early so we can plan production.

Packing and Shipping Considerations

Cut-to-size panels are packed flat on pallets with interleaved protective film, corner protection and sturdy cartons or wooden crates for large panels, so they arrive square and scratch-free. Standard 1220 x 2440 mm blanks load efficiently into a 20 ft container, while jumbo sheets typically need a 40 ft container or dedicated flat-rack; our packing guide explains the options in detail.
