Bulletproof Polycarbonate Panel: Levels, Thickness and Supply

Most people picture a bulletproof polycarbonate panel as armour against a shooter. In practice, a large share of the panels we supply are defending against something else: forced entry, vandalism, a thrown object, a tool attack at a checkpoint. Those threats call for a panel that is tough against impact and non-spalling, and the design is just as disciplined as for firearms.

Two jobs a bulletproof polycarbonate panel does

A ballistic panel stops a round; a forced-entry panel stops a person and their tools. Polycarbonate does both because it absorbs impact rather than shattering. For a bank counter, a checkpoint or a facility enclosure, we laminate polycarbonate into a panel that resists both deliberate attack and the blunt impact of a heavy object — and because it does not spall, the panel does not throw dangerous fragments.

What determines the panel build

  • Threat level: UL 752 level for firearms, or a forced-entry / impact standard for tool attack.
  • Panel size: larger openings need stiffer, often thicker, construction to stay stable under impact.
  • Lamination: multi-ply bonding absorbs repeated impacts; a single thick sheet is not a substitute.
  • Frame and fixing: the panel must be held so the impact load spreads, not concentrates at a bolt.
  • Transparency: we hold optical clarity so security glazing keeps sightlines and daylight.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the difference between ballistic and forced-entry polycarbonate?

A: Ballistic panels stop firearms to a UL 752 level; forced-entry panels resist tools and impact. Polycarbonate often serves both when correctly laminated and specified.

Q: Why does a bulletproof polycarbonate panel need lamination?

A:Multi-ply bonding absorbs repeated impacts and prevents spalling; a single thick sheet is not a designed substitute and can fail differently under attack.
