Why do acrylic sheets turn yellow? RIVER PEOPLE PLEXIGLASS (RP) explains UV degradation, co-extruded UV layers and how to choose outdoor-grade acrylic.
Why Does Acrylic Yellow?
UV radiation from sunlight breaks down the polymer chains in acrylic, causing micro-cracks and yellow discoloration over time.
How We Prevent Yellowing
- Cast acrylic with UV stabilizers mixed into the resin
- Optional UV co-extruded layer on one or both sides
- Protective masking film during storage and shipping
- Indoor storage before installation
Expected Lifespan
- Indoor: 20+ years
- Outdoor (UV-protected): 10-15 years
